What Customers Say About Sony HDR-UX10 4MP DVD High Definition Handycam Camcorder with 15x Optical Zoom:

DO NOT BUY THIS CAMERA. this camera would be much better if it were marketed as a $600 paperweight. We lost all data of baptism. camera works great, until disk is "unreadable".

The software to create my own DVDs is simply the Best I have seen and naturally I highly recommend this camera.I really made a good choice when I chose this as a Gift to myself for a LongService award reward for myself. I will get myself a tripod next tho because this thing is so awesome , especially the remote control features.I simply need to explore some more of the possiblities this camera offers. I am new to videography.but that being said the Quality and ease of usage for a Newbie like me has been sooooooo satisfying. I am still learning and reading the manual but I am completely satisfied with my purchase.

Sony would offer zero help, even after they acknowledged that their site is 100% misleading to consumers. It took several techs many days to figure out what was wrong. The Sony web site shows tons of pictures of this camera next to Ms Pro Duo chips, all of which say "Magic Gate" on them. A national customer service rep told me, "Just because the Sony web site shows this camera next to a magic gate MS Pro Duo chip does not mean that the camera necessarily works with that chip." 6 months in, and I still haven't taken a single successful picture or video. I spent $150+ on memory because of this error on Sony's part. I purchased this camera here on Amazon back in December 2008.

Because it cannot take pictures on any MS Pro Duo cards that also have the Magic Gate technology -- which 99% of them DO. By the time they did, I could no longer return my memory sticks. It's May 2009 and I've yet to take a single picture with it. Their tech support is the world's worst. Thanks, Sony. Why.

But try any of those chips in the camera and they do not work.

The 5.1 Dolby sound is incredible too. It's really easy to dub movies from the MS to the DVD using the camcorder. Between them, I can record 180 minutes of 1080i video. I picked up this little gem for around $425. I picked up two MS Pro Duo cards- an 8GB and 16GB. Be warned though- if you intend to record solely to DVD, you will only be able to store about 15 minutes of Hi-Def footage at the highest quality setting.I usually record in Hi-Def onto the MS cards, and record SD video directly on the DVD's. I compared it to more expensive Sony HD camcorders with built-in hard drives, but ultimately decided to go with the MS/DVD camcorder so I could catalog my movies, avoid having all my stuff on one hard drive (in case of camcorder loss or hard drive failure), and did not want to have to use a PC as an intermediary device. We took this camcorder on a recent trip to Washington DC, and all I can say is this: the picture quality of the videos at the highest quality HD setting is simply stunning. Every little detail shows up incredibly well when the movies are replayed on my Panasonic 58" plasma at home.

I immediately purchased it having read the great reviews on it. I don't expect my review to change people's minds, but all I can say is if you can find this camcorder at a decent price, you will not be upset. I stumbled across this one on Amazon and was immediately impressed with it's specs, but not too impressed with it's price tag of around $550.

Although the accessories are endless on this device, it just proves how professional it really is. It is a hybrid which means you cna record to 8cm DVD which by the way plays in a PS3. You can swap out the lens, add extra light, cases, batteries, etc.

I researched new high definition camcorders costing anywhere from $100 to $1,000 in hopes of finding a good one for around $300 - $400 which I found was virtually impossible considering the technology is so new. It has great specs including Low Lux capabilities for night shots and movies. It also allows you to record to the Sony ProDuo Media cards too which some of the newer Sony models don't let you do.The picture quality is spectacular and the mic is amazing on it allowing for 5.1 surround sound.I RECOMMEND THIS CAMCORDER.

To my surprise, Sams Club had this exact one marked down for $270 as it was the last one they had in stock. All I can say is: AMAZING.I highly recommend this camcorder as it takes exceptional high def videos.
